Scotland - Day8 - Travel, travel, travel

Will be a short post today as all we did was sit in the bus all day.  Had to get from the furtherst northern town of Thurso on the Scottish mainland to the west side of the country headed for the Isle of Skye.

In the US, under normal road conditions, this would have been at most, a 4 hour drive.  However, in northern Scottland, during our 9 hour drive, 3/4 of the roads were single lane.  Now....just so you understand, I am not saying single lane as in one lane going north and one lane going south, side by side, for example.  No, I mean one lane!!!  So, if a car is coming from the opposite direction something has to give.  Thankfully about every 1/4 mile there were pull offs where the smaller vehicle could pull over as we passed by.  But on multiple occassions we had to back up to go back to the pull off so the vehicle could get by!!!  It was a long day on the coach.

We did pass through the most northern part of the Scottish Highlands and the scenery was incredible.  I wish the day had been sunny, but it was not.  Photos would have been more dramatic I assume.

We did make a couple of rest stops along the way and my photo of the day is this one of Bob, from Bisbane, Australia...he needed to get on a picnic table to get over the heads of everyone else who was trying to take the same photo.

At one rest stop I found this little rig.  Hmmm, might have to consider it for future trips!!

We stopped in Ullapool for lunch and I had this little guy for a lunch companion.  Pubs in Scotland are very dog friendly.

We finally crossed over the Skye Bridge and found our hotel for the night.  I am sooooo glad to be off that coach!!

Not sure what is on the agenda for tomorrow, but I'll let you know!!
